Cowon iAudio M5 Review

Cowon has recently launched its latest iAudio M5 in Korea. It is an iAudio X5 without color screen and video support. Well, iMP3.net capable to get an engineering sample to be tested before the launching.

From the interface comparison of iAudio M5 and X5, we can know that the M5 does not support FM tuner, USB Host and image browsing. The added function of M5 is File Manager.

The M5 screen seems not that bad too. It has an 1.8″ 160×128 pixel, 4-grayscale screen. Since no color screen, the M5 can play longer now!

Since the tested M5 is still on engineering sample, its firmware is not stable yet. During the testing, there are two problems found. The M5 hanged during these situation:

  • Press pause button when the song is still playing
  • Browse song list with Enhanced Integrated Navigator when the song is still playing

Here is the opinion of the author of iMP3.net :

Pros:

  • Stylish looking
  • High resolution of display
  • Good sound quality, especially with BBE

Cons:

  • No built-in FM tuner
  • Do not support LRC lyrics
  • Firmware need to be improved
