iTunes Japan Officially Launched!

As reported before, Apple has launched its iTunes Music Store (iTMS) in Japan on 4th Aug 2005! At the press conference at Tokyo, Steve Jobs announced that iTMS is live with million songs in AAC format.

These songs are from 15 record companies, where 90% of them are sold for 150Yen (approx US$1.35) each and the less are 200Yen (approx US$1.80) each.

The Unannounced Samsung YP-U1?!

Have you heard about the Samsung YP-U1? I bet you don’t! It’s the latest series of Samsung’s flash-based MP3 player. It was introduced on Samsung’s Germany press release last month, without much attention.

The Samsung YP-U1 has a clean and simple design and available in black and white. It is slightly bigger than iPod Shuffle, with the dimension of 24 x 89 x 13mm with a built-in hinged USB plug. However, it is light, only weights 30g inclusive its built-in battery. Some of its features are:

  • Storage capacity: 512MB, 1GB
  • SupportsMP3, WMA, WAV, OGG
  • 8 user-defined equalizer settings
  • Display: Four-line display with white backlight

It still unsure yet whether the YP-U1 will be available worldwide or not. Until now, there is no official statement about this model other than Samsung’s Germany website.

Today we gonna to learn more on the core of MP3 player, digital audio decoder. MP3 is a lossy compression audio format. Thus, the audio decoder of the MP3 players take an important role. A decent audio decoder should minimize signal distortion compare to its source during the reproduction. And we will look at few big brands in popular in the market. The first will be SigmaTel, the one that just taken over Rio.

SigmaTel have gained the first place in the flash-based MP3 player market segment with its STMP34XX and STMP35XX series. SigmaTel is the first to provide single chip solution. With all-in-one features and “not that bad” sound quality, SigmaTel’s chips have gained lots of favors of many manufacturers. It minimizes the cost of production and also allows smaller size to be done!

If you have visited Wal-Mart store before, you may notice it is offering the MobiBlu DAH-1500i. Are you confused with the “i”? Ya, me too! Finally, the MobiBlu has just cleared the doubt. The “i” version is the improved DAH-1500, which supports WMA DRM and USB 2.0.
