Apple admits iPod Nano screen problem
September 28th, 2005 by Chi An
Just few weeks after launching of iPod Nano, there is a lot of complaints about easily scratched iPod Nano and some said they received iPod Nano with broken screen, just like this:

[Picture from Wikipedia] Regarding these issues, Apple’s Senior Vice President of Worldwide Product Marketing Phil Schiller has made such responce:
This is a real but minor issue involving a vendor quality problem in a small number of units. In fact, this issue has affected less than 1/10 of 1 percent of the total iPod nano units that we’ve shipped. It is not a design issue.
[…]
We have received very few calls from customers reporting this problem – we do not think this is a widespread issue. If customers are concerned about scratching we suggest they use one of the many iPod nano cases to protect their iPod.
Those who received iPod Nano with cracked screen may contact AppleCare and get a replacement unit. What about those scratched iPod Nano? Well, get yourselve a pretty case, which will be available soon (with your own money of course)!

Hi,
I have done some research on the ipod nanos duribility and i have an ipod shuffle, and color 40 gig video. And i also have the new Mac G5 and they all have worked well for me and i have never gotten a virus ( which is alost impossible for a mac ) and all of their products have all been very durable and reliable. I think that Steve Jobs and his co-workers were trying to make the smallest color display with the most amount of songs possible and lots of extras with the lowest price possible. I think that the scratching is due to the cheaper or lighter plastic that is used to make the ipod smaller and lighter (of cource). But i have also noticed that when i look at pictures of the broken ipod nano’s on google or yahoo they are all the black models and that made me wonder if the black is a less durable plastic. Please email me back Thanks Trevor ( im only 13 ) =)

Well I have a white ipod and it has a scratch on the side…its very annoying because i can’t see the display…but i can still listen to eat…i don’t know how i got the scratch…but i gave it to this little girl to listen to it for a while and it had its case on but when i got it back there was this huge scratch on the side..
My advice is don’t give your ipod to a little girl…I learned that the hard way…
