The debut of iPod Nano tells us that Apple really care about the market of flash-based players. It is a brilliant move of Apple while its iPods sales are growing slowly. Nevertheless, it give a warning signal to the manufacturers such as Creative, Sony, iRiver and other Korean makers that Apple is aiming their market shares!First, the high price/capacity ratio of iPod Nano is really unbeatable for the moment. The price for a 2GB iPod Nano can even cheaper than a 1GB Korean player. Somemore, it comes with a color display. While those makers of flash-based players try hard in harddisk-based market, Apple did a sudden attack on their base. The game becomes harder now. iRiver said that they will have innovative strategy to face the Apple’s challenge rather than price war. Also, there is a rumor that Samsung will introduce new model with 4GB storage capacity soon. Well, let see how other makers reacts! One important impact is that it hurts the supply chain of high capacity flash memory. The rumor before introducing iPod Nano said that Apple takes 40% of Samsung’s NAND flash in second half of this year with special rate. This is not only affects the digital audio player industry, it also hurts the 3G mobile phones and memory card manufacturers as their demands are increasing significantly nowadays.
