Nice to hear that.
Too bad, it is not available in Malaysia. I think I gotta ask someone to send it to me

I was personally disappointed by the Siren MP3 player. It is unable to recognize files other than Windows Media Player and the brochure and disc fail to include some pretty basic operating information. Their technical support was so bad they stunk up the place; didn’t even answer my questions.
I followed the advice they kindly placed on the face of the device: “Take Me Back”. So I did.
I figure as a 512 Mb external harddrive, perhaps it has merit, but certainly not as a player.

Not real good..1st the 10 free downloads cant be played on this player. there is no sight to download a update from and if you have a long file..the fast forward takes forever. the pause shuts the player off to quickly also..
October 20th, 2005 at 2:02 pm
Does Wal-mart provide firmware download? These problems are normally solved through firmware upgrade.
October 23rd, 2005 at 4:30 am
Does anyone know how to delete/remove songs saved on this mp3 player?
October 25th, 2005 at 11:12 pm
Did you load the downloaded files using Windows Media Player? The files you download from Walmart are protected so you cannot simply copy them to the device. You need to use Media Player with the optio of Copy to Device. This works great (though a bit slow).
October 26th, 2005 at 11:17 am
Nice player, could use a case or clip. Would be interested if anyone knows where I could get one?
October 26th, 2005 at 11:28 am
You can get it at Wal-Mart
Edited: Opss.. It is out of stock
October 31st, 2005 at 8:43 am
The only way I am familiar with is to delete the files from the device feature while the player is connected to Windows Media Player through the USB Cable.
October 31st, 2005 at 10:36 pm
is there a way i can link my siren mp3 player to my car stereo
November 1st, 2005 at 6:16 am
hook it up to the computer and click on the drive icon that pops up from there you can drag and drop and also delete
November 1st, 2005 at 6:24 am
you people who think the siren 512 is a bad deal Obviously havent figured it out i have had mine now for about two weeks and the Siren 512 ROX use the Windows Media Player 9 that comes with the software bundle no problem, click the “copy to portable device” tab and from there you can add and delete songs also for $50 at walmart a 1gb upgrade disk is a better deal than your precise “Ipod” buy the Siren, use the Siren
November 1st, 2005 at 6:27 am
another issue is a holder its about the size of a zippo lighter only a slight bit bigger there is a solution buy a zippo lighter belt holder
November 6th, 2005 at 12:10 am
My Siren won’t go off with the off button
It resets every time I try to hold it or even press it
I can go to the menu, but after that, any button pressed resets it again - this means the the index has to be updated again, too.
Any solutions?
November 6th, 2005 at 5:35 am
The easiest way to delete songs from this mp3 player is to use Windows Media Player and designate a specific folder to “sync” to. Anything that is in that folder will be automatically added to your mp3 player when you plug it in, turn it on and clink on the sync button. Anything that is NOT in that folder will be automatically deltered from your mp3 player when you (same steps).

Great buy for a 512mb. Good clarity. Decent headphones. Very easy to transfer songs from WMP. Looooong battery life. For you nay-sayers - just read the elementary level instructions. The free download songs from Wal-Mart is fine if you don’t choose any songs with profanity in it, which is conveniently bleeped out. Damn the man!
November 9th, 2005 at 12:43 pm
My first mp3 player, the ipod sounded too expensive. Had the siren for less than a week, excellent battery life! Clarity is great, the headphones honestly suck. Easy to upload songs. Only thing that really sucks about it is that it doesn’t have a belt clip or anything, which makes it a bit difficult to jog or exercise with.
In reponse to hershey grizwald’s question, yes you can hook up your Siren to your car. You can either buy one of those tapes with the cord that goes into your headphone jack or I bought a Belkin TuneCast II Mobile FM Transmitter. It works off of your car radio, just plug it into you headphone jack. It’s a nifty little buy.
November 10th, 2005 at 3:41 am
Yeah about the player resetting. That same thing hapened to me and i called the siren support number and they are replacing it for me so I’m not too upset about that. Other than that it’s been a pretty cool toy. This is my first mp3 player though so I’m not at all throughly educated on the devices. But i like it a lot and it was cheap.
November 10th, 2005 at 9:55 pm
Im still disappointed. Im trying to delete the songs already downloaded to make more space and change songs. I’ve tried emailing the tech support and they dont know what they are doing. They told me to call MICROSOFT………..
November 11th, 2005 at 8:35 am
you can delete the songs by opening it up
go to start and than my computer than look for the siren icon click right and than open… when it opens all the songs will be there… you can delete it that way ..and you can drag and drop with out using windows media player.. plesae let me know if this helped you
November 11th, 2005 at 11:14 am
“Incorrect format, reformat the player!” That is the error message including the exclamation mark. How do you reformat the player?
November 12th, 2005 at 4:44 am
I was Just at Wal-mart last night, and I saw the siren 512 mp3 player, and I’ll be honest, I really, really want it.I HAVE SOME QUESTIONS.
HERE THEY ARE:
1) DOES IT HAVE A BACKLIT SCREEN?IF IT DOES, WHAT COLOR IS THE BACKLIT SCREEN?
2)IT HAS A RADIO RIGHT?
3)IS IT THICK, OR THIN?
4)IS IT HEAVY?
5) DO THE EARPHONES REALLY SUCK?
6) IS THE EARPHONE JACKS LONG, SHORT, OR IN BETWEEN?
Sorry I had so many questions, but whoever gets this message, can you please answer all of them?
November 13th, 2005 at 1:38 pm
well its like the words and all the text is light and its white (exelent in the dark), it dose have a radio its about the size of ur pinky think…no its not heavy, yea i think the headphones suck i meen the qound its good but there thin wires and i know thell get a dead spot soon, the cord is about…. id say 3 ft. honestly im happy for it the price was grate it is alittle slow thow when u push like the skip buttion or the volume or when ur in the menu and u push a buttion there is a tinny delay but thats cool with me. best thing to do is get one play with it if u like it keep it if u dont return it and say it wasnt working lol
November 14th, 2005 at 9:21 pm
I bought a clip for a cell phone and it seems to work great.
November 15th, 2005 at 1:32 pm
Got message to reformat the player. What is that? Looked everywhere for website for help - like a firmwear update, but couldn’t find anything. It won’t run. Took it back, and got a Creative Labs.
November 16th, 2005 at 11:04 am

1:Yes it does have a backlit screen.The backlight color is a blueish-black

4:It is very light
5:The headphones, in my opinion, are great.
6:The cord is about three to four feet long.
November 16th, 2005 at 11:13 am

November 19th, 2005 at 5:24 am
I’m getting the “incorrect format please reformat the player” message. I’v e already reformatted it twice and it still gives the same error message. Anyone else getting this? Has anyone resolved it?
November 19th, 2005 at 8:39 pm
I bought one of these for my daughter. It took me about a week to figure it out and I have a degree in computer networking! In order to delete files from the player you must hook it up to your computer. Then go into “My Computer” then click on the drive listed for your Mp3 player. That will open up a new window with all the music files you currently have. Just click on the files you don’t want and click on delete at the top of the window. Hope this helps!
November 22nd, 2005 at 1:55 am
i’m reading the pdf manual now. I must say they forget the steps in deleting tracks in their manual.
November 22nd, 2005 at 4:19 am
Hello, Ruth.
load your computer up and click on the “MY COMPUTER ICON.” THEN CLICK ON THE REMOVABLE DISK ICON (NOT FLOPPY DISK) AND ONCE YOU HAVE DONE THAT, YOU WILL SEE ALL OF THE SONGS YOU HAVE ON THE MP3 PLAYER. YOU CAN THEN RIGHT-CLICK WHATEVER MUSIC FILE YOU WANT, AND THEN YOU COULD CLICK DELETE.let me know if this helps!
November 22nd, 2005 at 10:26 am
Can you download songs from other sites besides walmart.com. if i get this Siren Mp3 player I don’t think my teenager will want the edited songs from walmart.com.
Thanks
November 22nd, 2005 at 11:28 am
yup works with existing music on ur hard drive pluse any thing u can download online
November 23rd, 2005 at 4:21 am
Ive had this mp3 player since it was released, and havent had a single prob with it! its a great cheap mp3 player, it can play individual artists, albumbs, record your voice or radio stuff, its one of the best mp3 players ive seen for under $100. adding and removing files is a breeze, just right click a song and say send to the device or sd card, or windows media player has a sync thing too…If your looking for a great gift i HIGHLY suggest this mp3 player!
November 23rd, 2005 at 6:09 am
Does this mp3 player play songs in the order of the ID3 track number or in alphabetical order? I bought a SanDisc Sansa e130 mp3 player and it plays the songs in alphabetical order and does not use the ID3 track number. I love the player, but not being able to play the songs in the order they are in on the CD stinks. I wrote SanDisc about this and they never replied. I am considering purchasing the Siren player if it uses the ID3 tag for track number.
November 23rd, 2005 at 1:50 pm
i believe it too plays alphabetically but it also has the options to play randomly, or you can play specific artists or albums [ill check the order of the songs tommorrow though just to be sure
November 26th, 2005 at 7:37 pm
Bought a 1g SD card for my player. It showes more memory buy I can only upload to the 512 that I already had. Any one know how to fix this? In stead of showing 1395 mb it only showes 495 when I try to upload with Media Player.
November 27th, 2005 at 6:32 am
When you plug into the included USB cable & connect it to your PC, it shows up as a new drive letter. Use Windows’ Explorer, go into the “new drive” & delete what you don’t want (you can drag & drop songs from your PC to it by as well).
Yes, the included earbuds suck- buy decent ones for less than $10.
I bought mine in September. $68 was a hot price then- after Turkey Day, better ½GB MP3 Players are around for <$50 (don’t know if those ones can add flash memory).
November 27th, 2005 at 9:22 am
It will show the card as a seperate drive as the internal memory, but the player will compile it all into its song lists :p [just like a digi camera does when you put a card into it]
November 28th, 2005 at 12:04 am
Hi i am 13 and i love my mp3
November 28th, 2005 at 1:35 am
Hi all…your comments have been really helpful, as I am thinking of purchasing this for my 12 yr. old grandson as a Christmas gift.
Thanks. Sounds like we can handle this one:)
November 28th, 2005 at 2:01 am
My mom had bought me one in October, but we found a 1GB SanDisk MP3 player for 68.99, or about the exact same price, during the Circuit City after T-day sale. Plus, my Siren is bugging - it still resets when I try to go to do something in the menu, and last time the off button didn’t work - so it is going back to Wal-Mart.
November 29th, 2005 at 11:08 am
hey hope your son loves the mp3 it is a good 1 hey jocie
November 29th, 2005 at 11:10 am

November 30th, 2005 at 8:26 am
Could you please tell me if you make a speaker set up for these siren mp3 players. in Missoula, MT?
December 1st, 2005 at 12:51 am
why is this so shitty? I can’t reformat the **** thing. This divice is ****ing shitty. Didn’t the company know the formating would be a problem they programed it to say “incorrect format please reformat the player” you would think they would have a solution that worked! is thier a solution?!!
December 1st, 2005 at 1:15 am
I have the same problem, I tried reformatting it using Window and I couldn’t… Did you solve the problem??
December 1st, 2005 at 4:46 am
i dont see how you go this prob…are your fiels in mp3 or wma format? [ive NEVER had a prob with this mp3 player and am amazed at how you guys come up with errors/probs]
December 1st, 2005 at 11:58 am
i will not buy this mp3 player………………i have read way too many negative comments about this p[layer, and besides it is a name i am not familiar with at all.
so i will buy a 256mb creative muvo instead.
i can still dl 120 songs in wma format
and thats fine for me
December 1st, 2005 at 12:22 pm
I got the last one at my walmart. Dissapointed it does not have bookmarks or resume from where you stopped it. It restarts from the beginning. Bad for listening to audio books.
Cant figure how to list my tracks so i can scroll to play a certain one. How do you list its stored files? No lockout botton, that I can tell. A little easy to hit a button when its in the pocket. Needs a lock out control.
Otherwise, very good loud sound. My old iriver had to be turned up all the way and still too quiet. Not a problem with this. 512 mb is pretty good for $68.
Just wish it had a resume or bookmark support for audio book listening.
December 1st, 2005 at 12:26 pm
someone gave me a player, was wanting to know if the installation disk was needed and if so, can I just purchase the disk.
December 1st, 2005 at 12:43 pm
I bought it and my son is getting ready for me to IRAQ we just need to know if you have a case that fits in on the market or which off brads is the best protection.
December 2nd, 2005 at 1:03 pm
I just bought 2, one for myself and one as a christmas gift for my 11 year old son. I opened mine to get familiar with it before Christmas. So far i really like it, however i have nothing to compare it too since this is my first mp3 player purchase. It’s easy to use, easy to transfer my music from my computer to and download music from Wal-mart. I’m sure my son will be just thrilled with it. The bonus 10 free music downloads is a plus too…he’ll be able to immediately have music to listen too, in addition to what came on it already. The earbuds are uncomfortable but those are easy and cheap to replace.
December 2nd, 2005 at 11:34 pm
does anyone with the siren 512 know how to lock the keys? the manual shows a lock icon, like it can be locked, but no instructions on how. it refers to a lock button on the side, where? all i have is menu, vol+- and skip<>
December 2nd, 2005 at 11:40 pm
never mind. i called siren and they said the manual for the 512 was wrong. no key lock. only a lock on the 1gig.
December 3rd, 2005 at 3:18 pm
everyone seems to be talking about a lock-out feature, it does not have a switch like most mp3 players to stop the player from turning on or off while its in your pocket…it does however have a setting that you can set so if it is turned on in your pocket you can have it autoshutoff in a given interval of time [like mines set to turn off after 15 seconds of being on[if its not playing anything]…you can also do this time thing with the backlight.
to reuben,
It does not require any software to put your music on it, just plug it in to your comp and trasnfer files
to randy,
This mp3 player will save what track you last listend to as long as you shut it down by holding the shut down button[I LOVE how it requires you to hold the shut down button, so it doesnt shut off in my pocket]
unfortunately it doesnt save what time in the song you were at]
December 3rd, 2005 at 5:22 pm
Yea I think i am going to return it and try the rca lyra 1072. it has lockout and resume features. Important to me. But i wouldnt knock the siren 512. Most will probably be happy with it at the $$$.
December 5th, 2005 at 11:00 am
is the only way to get music on the mp3 player is to buy it,or can you down load mcisc that you already have on your computer?
December 6th, 2005 at 1:13 am
You can copy any mp3 (or many other type files) right to your mp3 player. I only use my mp3 player to copy files from my pc. I record tv shows and movies onto my pc, use free programs to take out the audio, and other free programs to make a mp3 out of the audio. Then copy it to the mp3. Or you can use free programs to rip your CD collectiion to mp3 files on your pc, then copy them to your mp3 player. You dont have to use pay services or their files. I never have.
December 7th, 2005 at 7:25 am
I just got the 512mb. Anyone know how to delete the history? Like when you go to “Music, Songs”… it saves the songs that you’ve had even if you’ve deleted them in the past… won’t this eventually take up memory? Anyone know how to delete this? I’m afraid it’s gonna take up memory overtime eventually or something.
December 7th, 2005 at 10:59 pm
I just got it two days ago and so far so good. I love the fact that the memory can be upgraded. The FM and sound works so well and the battery last a long time too.
December 12th, 2005 at 11:10 am

December 12th, 2005 at 2:18 pm
I wish that I could select songs by genre, but your player doesn’t recognise the song tags that my computer uses. Is there a software to tag songs for use in sren?
December 14th, 2005 at 2:36 pm
Reply to: Is there a software to tag songs for use in sren?
if you wanted to, you could change the songs ‘album name’ on its tag to that of a playlist you would like to make, Ive done it before, for instence you can change the album to a set of songs you would like to group together for and call that album ‘party songs’ and then go under the menu sort by album and select that album, it will then play any song you changed the tag to saying that its in that album
December 23rd, 2005 at 1:20 pm
Is there a way to delete songs ?
December 25th, 2005 at 8:43 am
yeh, to delete a song you simply plug in your mp3 player to a computer via the usb cable , open the ‘my computer’ folder and
open the mp3 players folder select the song you hate and
delete it :p
December 26th, 2005 at 4:45 am

December 28th, 2005 at 5:47 am
do you mean how/can you pause?
..press the play/pause button, then press that again and it will resume where you left off in that song.
or you can press stop to stopt he song entirely, when you press play again it will resume at the beginning of that song or if you pressed stop between songs then it will resume at the beginning of the next song
December 28th, 2005 at 2:22 pm
hey i got my mp3 to hold 109 songs is that all i con hold or is there more
December 29th, 2005 at 2:04 pm
Has anyone gotten an answer about the “incorrect format” error on sirens and ilo 1gb players? Or is “Take Me Back” the only real fix?
December 29th, 2005 at 2:27 pm
Okay, I’ve finally resurrected one from the “incorrect format” error (an ilo 1gb). We have two computers here, one with win98se and the other with XP. Formatting the player on the win98se allowed things to be stored on it as a drive, but will not function as a player and gave the same error when disconnected. When I went to format it on the XP machine, there was a choice of “fat32″ or “fat”. I selected “fat” and completed the operation. When I disconnected the player, it started scanning for songs again! I’m *guessing* win98se will only allow fat32 formatting, which isn’t readable by the player’s firmware. We did nothing special to get this problem, we were just loading songs on it via Media Player and it appeared when the player was disconnected.
December 29th, 2005 at 11:59 pm
Could It be that you didnt use the safely remove hardware button, that resides in the taskbar, when you have a usb device plugged in.
I always use the safely remove hardware button, when I disconnect any
usb devices. No problems with my mine. Long link HERE
December 30th, 2005 at 12:28 am
No, we always used the safely remove hardware button. This seems to be a random occurrence, but at least now I can get them back when it happens.
December 30th, 2005 at 8:35 am
the safely remove hardware button only stops processes dealing with the connected hardware from running, if your not doing anything with the player [folder’s closed, not transfering files] then its safe to remove it without pressing the button =p
[same goes with any other usb device]
not pressing this button and removing the hardware[in this case the mp3 player] will only harm the hardware if the computer is currently transfering data, in most cases only that file will be corrupted in case of a removal during tis transfer
December 31st, 2005 at 5:01 am
every one that is having all kinds of problems must not know what they are doing . I got two of them for my kids . and it works great it has .track / album / genre /select . and is easy to rip & sync songs to the player with media player 10.
December 31st, 2005 at 3:51 pm
These siren (ILO) mp3 players DO NOT have the ability to continue from playing a track from where you left off when powering down. No bookmark options or resume features (other than the pause). The only players I’ve found that do are the irivers players and the creative labs zen players. Most creative labs players have a resume after power off. This is important if you ever want to listen to old time radio mp3 stories, mp3 movie sound tracks or audio books in mp3. Just FYI…
December 31st, 2005 at 3:57 pm

Help! ! just got this Siren 512 MB mp3 player, and I can’t even get the software to load into my computer! When I put in the disk, and follow the information requested, it tells me it can’t continue unless I go to a Windows Media 10 download. okay, I did that, but it still tells me the same thing, and will not continue loading the software. Is there at least another kind of software I can use to download my songs, or am I at the mercy of this program that my computer doesn’t seem to like?

Wal_Mart’s Siren 512mb MP3 player states on the packaging up to 16 hours of play time on an AAA battery. I am getting only 3 hours on mine. I am wondering if other users are experiencing the same?
For people having problems loading songs, forget the CD that came with it and the confusing directions. You should be able to plug it into a USB port and be recognized as a new hard drive, like a jumpdrive. Use Windows Media Player to rip and save your songs, then use Windows Explorer and drag them onto your Siren player.

Hey i just noticed the ample amt. of ppl on here beggin for instructions…here’s the siren site…
http://www.sirenplayer.com/index.php
and the online manual is at…
http://www.sirenplayer.com/images/SIREN512manual-6.28.pdf
you dont need the stupid cd that came with it, just use wmp 10 or simply drag and drop your music into it, or select the music you want [in explorer/my computer and select send to> then select the drive your mp3 player is being recognized as or the sd card if you have one inserted

Regarding a case for your Siren MP3 player. Go to your local ‘dollar’ store and buy a case for a cell phone, the one I bought is just the correct size to hold the player and ear buds. The clear front perfect for seeing lcd screen. I did have to cut the one side a little to operate the buttons.

I bought two for my kids for Xmas and one works, the other has the “Incorrect format, reformat player” message. I’ve emailed customer service and they’ve taken me through the “My Computer” formatting, which didn’t work, and going into Windows Media Player and Tools, Options, highlight Siren (it has to be connected) Properties, and unchecking the “Create folder hierarchy” then go to My Computer, click on the Siren and then click on Format. I’ve tried Fat32 and Fat, and neither one works. I also keep getting a “Windows-Delayed Write Failed” message on my computer. I’ve tried this on two different computers and still nothing. Unfortunately, Walmart doesn’t have any more so Ill be getting another kind all together.

matt - I guess you have to transfer music through Windows Media Player.
Trish - So sorry to hear about that. Probably, you should get SanDisk Sansa E130 or E230 at < $70.
January 27th, 2006 at 12:55 am
Vinny - yeh i see that lock symbol, but still cant figure out how to enable a lock on the player…
Matt- you don’t need the software that comes with the player, ou can either transfer files through wmp or through explorer[’my computer’] by simply selecting songs you like, right clicking and say ’send to’ then select the mp3 player, or click and drag songs to the mp3 players folder, or copy and paste them to it.
Trish,Josh, and anyone else with the reformat error, it seems your formatting it correctly, only thing i can think of is trying to format it on a different computer , and if possible try formatting it on a different OS such as windows XP/XP PRO/etc.

i spent long nights trying to get my siren player to work. it never does i am so sorry that i have ever bought one of these. the shit just doesnt work and i feel played it keeps saying to reformat the player i followed all of the instructions that the european lady gave me over the phone. i wish that i have never bought one, wal-mart took them off the shelves the day after i bought mine and refused to give me any service as a costomer. if you are reading this and considering of buying one of these DO NOT FUCKING DO IT.
February 10th, 2006 at 10:53 am
it appears there’s a few to many morons in the world around us, people dont understand a simple format error. and most likely know nothing of electronics, this mp3 player [aside from what a few fools have said] works perfectly [unless you know nothing of what your doing(which is pretty pathetic)]…
If you simply dont understand how to drag a file over to a different folder then this mp3 player isnt for you…
also if you are DUMB ENOUGH NOT TO KNOW HOW TO FORMAT A SD CARD then obviously dont buy one, and yes i have formated my sd card.
for those of you who are incompetant enough to not know how to use this mp3 player, grow up, learn a bit bout electronics, and go shoot yourselves for not knowin how to transfer files, format a card, press play, pause a song, and all the other pathetic probs you kids are having…grow up

As the cause might be the buggy firmware, I would suggest you directly contact Siren/iLo custormer support through email and request for a new version of firmware.

Dear Siren,
I am having trouble with my Siren 512gb mp3 player. The screen is messed up so I can’t see what song I’m listening to, I can’t see how far I’m into the song, I can’t see what fm radio station I’m at ,and I can’t see the menu screen. I love the mp3 player it’s small, compact, and easy to use but it get irritating after a while. So if there is anything that you can do to to help me ( basicly send it back to get a new one) then E-mail a letter to me to help with my problem.
Thank You
