Philips China Annouces GoGear SA065
Mar 26, 2009 PMP, Philips View Comments

Philips’ distributor and OEM partner in China, Keen High Technologies Ltd, recently announced the upcoming GoGear SA065 during annual meeting with their dealers. An engineering sample was introduced to the dealers during the event. The source reported that the new GoGear SA065 will be powered by Rockchip RK2706B solution and supports China Multimedia Mobile Broadcasting (CMMB) standard.
There is also another PMP device, GoGear SA054 in the company roadmap. However, there is no sample showed in the event. The proposed SA054 supports TV-Out with better YUV instead of a common CVBS. Probably, we’ll see something with HDMI output in near future also.

SmartQ 5 Hands On
Mar 24, 2009 PMP View Comments
We’ve seen the real SmartQ 5, and we know that it runs on localized Ubuntu. What will you get for paying RMB899 (approx US$132)?
For the price of a iPod Nano, you’ll get a so-called MID powered by Samsung ARM11 S3C6410 667Mhz, 128MB DDR memory and 1GB of flash memory. It features a 4.3″ Touch Lens screen at 800 x 480 pixel resolution. Though you can’t make a phone call through this device, you still connect to the world with its WIFI 802.11b/g and Bluetooth 2.0 + EDR modules. It also supports USB OTG, USB Host and up to 32GB of SD card extension.
It looks quite promising, but the bad thing is that it only available in China now. I think I find some way to get this device

iPod Shuffle Only Works with Apple Earphone?!
Mar 16, 2009 Apple, MP3 Players View Comments

Guys at Boing Boing dissects the earphones of the new iPod Shuffle, and found a tiny chip, coded 8A83E3. It could be just a normal chip that read and transmit a button click to a digital signal. As the new iPod shuffle has no button on the device, all the functions are controlled by its earphones. It seems Apple is making advantage from its 70% of the market share. The company can make a decent revenue by just turning the earphone chip into a licensing scheme!
By adding such a chip to headphones, Apple could force third-party manufacturers to pay fees to make headphones for its iPod Shuffle—after all, the device has no controls, so normal headphones are useless.
